The Cigarettes

The Cigarettes – They’re Back Again, Here They Come // I’ve Forgot My Number / All We Want Is Your Money (Company Records) 1979. These dapper gents released this brilliant 45 back in 1979. Clearly if we are going by style of dress alone the Cigs would have been considered a mod band. But here at Last Days, we aren’t that superficial. We know that the proof is in the grooves. Maybe they considered themselves a mod band? By 79 that was much more in vogue than punk rock. Yeah, what we probably have here is a pure case of youthful exuberance. Cuz this sounds like a punk 45. Except for I Forgot My Number which sounds like a mod song being played by a punk band. Fave track is the A Side They’re Back Again, Here They Come which blazes along in a real scorching fashion and manages to sound like Johnny Rotten, Iggy Pop and the Jam all at the same time.
