RIP Sean Finnegan

Sean Finnegan, drummer for the band VOID, died this week. He was 43 years old. That’s fucked up. I never knew Sean (or anyone from the DC hardcore scene) but it goes without saying that VOID was without a doubt, the most brutally hardcore of the original crop of hardcore bands. The fact that the dudes in the band looked like suburban jocks just added to the what the fuck is this? appeal of the band. They were pretty much untouchable and they were a huge ideological influence on me in the same way a lot of early hardcore bands were.

Here’s a set of VOID from their various releases. Think could be my all-time favorite hardcore track ever. It certainly would be in my top ten. The level of pure venom with which vocalist John Weiffenbach spits out the lyrics is completely undeniable.

Black Jewish and Poor (Condensed Flesh 7inch – eye 95 records 1992 Recorded at Inner Ear in 1981)
My Rules (Flex Your Head Compilation – Dischord 1982)
Think (Void/Faith Split – Dischord 1982)
Get Out of My Way (Bouncing Babies Compilation – Fountain of Youth 1984 )

Some Videos of VOID as well

My Rules (Wilson Center 1983)

Who Are You (Wilson Center 1983)

More info at Dischord. Erich posted the Condensed Flesh EP a while back. It makes him want to do things. THINGS! Slobo mentions them too and captures a lot of the whatthefuckisthis feeling I speak of with VOID. Right Here.

RIP Sean Finnegan!
