Grandmixer D.st Cuts it Up

Grandmixer D.st – Cuts It Up (Celluloid Records ) 1982. The Grandmixer was one of the original DJs in the Bronx back in the day but he really didn’t start breaking through until after the initial wave of party jams had receded. So even though he was around from the beginning, he is most associated with the electro sound that started up after Planet Rock by Afrika Bambaataa in 1982. He was part of the Celluloid crew that included Phase II and Rammelzee. They all went out on a European tour in the fall of 82 which represented the first time Europe had seen hip-hop live. Grandmixer D.st’s scratching was so impressive that Herbie Hancock asked him to man the turntables for the 1983 classic Rockit. So yeah, quite a pedigree really. Here he is with an earlier track, the classic Grandmixer D.st Cuts It Up and as you can see, the man has skills.
