This is one of my favorite EPs ever. The Nils were a really brilliant band. There is so much emotional depth to these songs.
Mag Wheel Records released a compilation of all Nils tracks a few years back. So I am kinda breaking my rule here about not posting things in print. However, if you like these tracks, this only scratches the surface and I encourage you to buy Nils Green Fields in Daylight in its entirety.
The Nils were one of the most underrated bands ever. The man behind the Nils, Alex Soira killed himself in 2004. A heartfelt obit is contained here.
The Nils – Sell Out Young
1. In Betweens
2. Fountains
3. Daylight
4. Freedom
Niels!!! One of my favourite bands from Canada. Ever! Higly underrated. This 12″ is such a classic. I’ve been thinking about posting it too. But I don’t have it at home right now. Hopefully other people will realise what a great band this was.
Only one post – that’s criminal !. What is not to like about The Nils – some of the best pop shit ever written. I’m blasting the “Green Fields In Daylight” Cd right now
I know man….this is one of the best ever.
The Nils were great. Scratches & Needles is one of my all time favourite punk tunes! You should put their “I Am The Wolf” (Paisley) 12″ up also!
hey joe, posted some canadian punk, check it out if you please

Holy cow, it’s as if this post was never here, because I’m just finding out about it now. Never knew you’d posted the Nils. Great band.
@Brushback ha…no punchline?
A friend of mine recently sent me this Blog link. Thanks for sharing the Nils links/info. Truly one of the great lost punk bands of the 80s. My band (THE WELL WISHERS) recently covered the song “Fountains” Anyone is welcome to check it out/download by clicking here:

The bst album they ever did…..Plus a DVD compliataion of all previously unreleased footage of The Nils live in their early years… E-Mail me at thenilsband@gmail.com. I also created a group on The Nils on Facebook. Just look for The Nils (Montreal Punk Band) You will find it. Or find me Niko Stash on Facebook. Tobe_Damit on Vampirefreaks.
This is serious. Not a joke. The DVD has just been recorded, as soon as the sleeve design is ok, it’s gonna be out and the DVD will follow shortly after. I myself have fottage from concerts from 1985, 1986 and 3 other latershows featuring The Nils. Plus a live telecast show called Buzz on Much Music (Musique Plus in Montreal)
I first heard this record in like 88. Sam (current Down By Law) played this for me when we were in a crappy band together in jr. high in Tampa. This record will always be heads above any so called “pop punk” that came after it. Powerful with great melodies. I wish had the original vinyl in my collection…
Thanks for this- looking for a while- man oh man! brings me back to high school RIP ALEX
