The FU’s – My America

The FU’s – My America (X-Claim!) 1983. I haven’t posted any Boston HC lately so here I go….

The FU’s were one of my fave bands back in the day. I dug how much they pissed off the MRR punx back when this LP came out. In light of current events, maybe the sentiment of this album isn’t as funny, but back in the day I used to love goading hippies with this LP.

but looking back, it seems like the LP was the best they ever put out!

  3. OTTO says:

Always liked this one… and already ripped my own copy.

Have you ripped their second LP (Do We Really Want To Hurt You) or any of the Straw Dogs stuff. I have on very old cassette tapes not worth copying. Not as good as this one (missing American Band) but still a few choice cuts I wouldn’t mind having on the shuffle.

  4. Tom says:

Any plans to post the last track (American Band), or is it too hideous to endure?

  5. Joe Stumble says:

I didnt post the Grand Funk cover bc it is not on the original edition of this LP that I own. I don’t have it.

Also, its actually thier second LP. Thier first is Kill For Christ. Do We Really Want to Hurt You is thier 3rd.

I agree that this is thier best. Its a perfect mix between the thrash of the first LP and the mosh of thier 3rd.

I dont have any Straw Dogs. I never liked later DYS and SSD so I never really gave Straw Dogs a shot.

Boston HC was the awesome in its heyday though.

  6. otto says:

Strange, I always think of Kill for Christ as an EP, or whatever… probably because I didn’t like it much.

Agree on the SSD, DYS front. Liked SSD less and less with each release (gotta stick together, gotta stick together, gotta stick together… like GLUUUUUUE! – fuckin’ inspirational).

Straw Dogs were more of a straight ahead rock band… they surprised me and my punk friends back in the day. I.e., wee thought they were darn good. Very hard to find their stuff it seems.

  7. Joe Stumble says:

Yeah this is actually an EP too. Its all of 9 minutes or something. Kill For Christ isn’t good or bad…just generic. This is the one where they really came into thier own.

Thanks for the info on Straw Dogs…gonna have to check it out.

Straw Dogs are one of the best from Boston. L&F put out a double CD 10 years ago. Worth a look.

  9. Peter - KBDRecords says:

Great post Joe. Amercian Band is on the original first press of this 12″ EP. And I like that cover alot. Might post it hmm…

  10. Haizman_Brain says:

I thought there was a picture of Gen Patton on the cover….

I always wished that there was an album between this one and “Do We Really…”. “Choir Boy” is one of the best HC tracks ever (mid track when it hits the fast part…I’m jumping out of my computer chair at work…timeless, ripping, clasic!!).

I loved the rock elements of DO we Really.. and wished that there were a bit more in My America.

Great site – appreciate the efforts.

  11. Joe Stumble says:

Maybe you and Peter are right and I don’t own an original. I bought mine in the mid-80′s at a used record store (Record Exchange!). It has the sun rising on the front and no “American Band”. It also has a pic of patton on one side of the record itself.

I always thought it was an original but what do I know?

I agree with what you say about this LP. I loved Boston HC back in the day precisely becasue of this album, the first Jerry’s Kids LP, Gang Green’s early stuff….it all just seemed to explode from the speakers.

  12. Suburban Voice On-Line says:

first of all, I just stumbled across this site. Nice job. I’m an old Boston hardcore dude and in the past year or so, I’ve decided that this album and “Is This My World” by Jerry’s Kids are my two favorite Boston HC records from back then. The breakdown on “Boston’s Finest” is sick. By the way, it was meant as a joke, a way to tweak the self-righteous types in the hardcore scene…

  13. Joe Stumble says:

Check out the Deathwish post as well!

  14. Rob_Ruz says:

“Is This My World” is probably my favorite Boston HxC release ever.
    AL, How you doin??

  15. Monger says:

why didnt you post the other track on the album?

  16. mark says:

I bought this L.P. as soon as it came out
(or so I thought at the time) and it Did have
    ‘we’re an American band’.

I picked up “Kill for Christ” from the band, when they were touring
and selling stuff outta the van.
decent guys, if I remember right.

  17. Joe says:

Mine must be a boot bc it does not have the Grand Funk cover. I’ve heard the cover before and saw it on other editions of the LP but I always assumed it was a cover added on to later editions.

Its the worst song on the LP so I never really worried about it. Since its causing such an ongoing controversy though thats my theory….

  18. Ben Low says:

There was a re-issue that came out in the late 80s on Classy Records from Boston that didn’t have “We’re An American Band.” I think some of the guys from The F.U.’s might have had something to do with the label which I believe also put out a record by The Hellcats From Outer Space which was dudes from Jerry’s Kids and Wrecking Crew (Al Quint would know for sure). That’s probably what you have. If not, I’m at a loss as I don’t think that record ever got booted and if it did it wouldn’t have come out until later. I was in Boston around then (late 80s / early 90s) and lemme tell you, the people who gave a shit about The F.U.’s or Jerry’s Kids were pretty few and far between. SSD and DYS were the ones the younger generation of hardcore kids talked about in hushed tones as the whole Youth Crew straight edge cult kept their name alive.

  19. springaisgod says:

i got the “classy” edition from ’89, and it has “american band” but untitled, like a hiden track. i think in the xclaim edition the track is untitled too. so a record without this song is very very rare. the f.u.’s were awesome, but my favorite boston band is ssd, “get it away” is a monster!!!.

  20. JAN says:

aint this album meant to be sarcastic..

  21. Joe says:

Sorta….its kind of a case of having your cake and eating it too.
